We live on the Gregorian calendar to keep the equinoxes lining up, but July comes from the Julian calendar, named for Julius Caesar. It doesn't mean anything particularly interesting. Thanks, Caesar.
Great question - I think they belong to the neighbors up the road and they come down in the mornings and hang out with Bear. We havent broached what I perceive as a problem and they may not perceive as a problem. We've had 3 dogs dropped off in the past couple years and the shelter in our county won't take them so it's potentially a tough spot further down the road.
The gift of picturing in my mind the shack looking out on the sunflowers.
Your writing, so clear eyed and loving, prompts me to see my own world with renewed gratitude and respect. Thank you again for the gift of your words. They matter. Truly.
I think summer is always calling me to get in the car and drive with the windows down. Not many people here do, always with the AC on, but I prefer to fly my arm out in the wind and get the one-sided tan. After I hauled some of the poplar stump they ground down to a dust around the yard, I started coughing like crazy. Had a heck of a headache and sweats and finally made a doc appt. Pneumonia. In July. It seems unfair but especially that we’ve had some low humidity days. I’ve been getting a real lesson in acceptance and easy-doesing-it. Not being able to catch your breath sure gets your attention. So glad to see the profits of the garden, the dogs finding the cool spots, and to hear about watering the garden bringing joy. I feel the same. Supposed to stay in and rest but got out to the garden plot and watered the corn and I swear I felt them all sigh. Today I paid for the work by mostly laying around. Hope the chickens get it sorted and find their new matriarch soon. ✨💖
Always a joy to see your emails pop up. Gonna tell Edie they're doin they're job because we go through sketchbooks like nobody's business here. Love ya. Xoxo
What happened to the puppies?

That sweet little chicken grave. ❤️

Sleep does just come up. Loved every word

So sorry about Zeppo. 🖤
I’ve yet to eat at Moon Lake. In 22 years, you’d think I could have caught it open at least one time.
Waiting to get a box of canning/freezing peaches from Pontotoc.
Enjoyed this piece, Mule.
Always such a beautiful lens into your world and your way of thinking. Joy to be found in all of it! Thank you!
There really isn't much better than driving around the Delta ❤️
The chicken's grave covered with flowers--lovely and so touching.
Great post! I could eat a case of those CherryCreek peaches a week when I lived in Pontotoc. When their freestones arrived, unlimited sugar intake!
